"SPEECH AS A POLITICAL ACT"
Amsterdam, 2007
Script and series of recorded
debates and readings

Starting-point
for this work is a public debate between individuals who can be described
as left-wing and right-wing anarchists. It took place at Casco Projects,
Utrecht in 2007 (click
here for more information). The debate was transcribed, turned into
a theatrical script and read out by a panel of five academics during the
Critical Legal Conference at Birkbeck School of Law, London. The debate
that evolved after the reading was again transcribed and added as a new
act to the script. Subsequent readings in different oral arenas involved
actors, free speech activists, young students and art professionals. They
followed the same procedure of reading and discussing, causing a snow
ball effect that lead to a series of video registrations and a final seven
act script entitled ‘Speech as a Political Act’. |
